Hi
I can't believe the cacophony of names that she's inherited in French...
Can a curator please either clean up the names or someone else find a source for them?
I don;t see anything that fits in Arsenault or elsewhere

tks:)
Joel

Joel Scott Cognevich - you seem familiar, plus she’s acquired a father.

Joel Morin,

First, thank you for your attention to detail. I appreciate the help with the Acadian branches!

You are correct This is an attempt to add one of her husband's surnames as her own surname. The other name entry is an apparent nickname to which I find no reference.

As you are likely well aware, French women did not take on their spouse's surname as their own when married. I see too often, users wanting to change female's birthnames to their husbands surname at the time of marriage. It is preferable to add this information in the AKA field if one fells it necessary.

Subsequently, I have moved the extraneous names to the AKA field. The only time I will completely delete this type of information is if it is obviously incorrect or a duplicate of the names already entered for that profile.

I have been trying to correct all profiles similar to the one you reference. Your help in doing the same is greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you!

Many thanks for your help on this, Joel - We namesakes have to stick together ;-)

The assignment of husbands' names to women is a huge pet peeve of mine - I let it go in the Common Law world but I consider it a hurdle when seesking to match folks.
I also cringe when I see the "feu" cropping up in names, as clearly the editors have no idea what they are doing :(

I've got myself a stack of Bona Arsenault books from the library and have been blitzing my Acadian ancestors, now that I live in the area

All the best

Joel
