Thomas Butler died 1784, and his will names his daughter Ann Lanier, and his son in law Lewis Lanier, who were living with him, or near by, as Lewis had many real estate deals in that vicinity. In 1785 Lewis and his family moved to Anson County, N ,C. where his brother Burwell had preceeded him. He was a Member of the House of Commons 1788 to 1789, and in the Senate 1789 to 1790.
Lewis Lanier did not move to Georgia until the summer of 1791, and lived in Savannah, Chatham County, until 1794 when he moved to Screven Co. His wife Ann died late 1802 Screven County, and he married there second, August 26, 1803 Esther (Butts) Thorne b. March 17, 1 775, died Oct. 19, 1855.
He had five daughters born before 1790, and two sons and a daughter in Georgia, children of Ann; and two sons and a daughter by Esther Thorne.
In Georgia, Lewis Lanier was Justice of the Peace of Screven County, and in 1796 was a Representative from the County; in 1798 he was a member of the Constitutional Convention from Screven.
In 1846 his son Thomas Butler Lanier attempted to get a Revolutionary Pension for Esther Thorne Lanier, but after twelve years it was rejected for lack of evidence, and failure to find any record in Washington of his services, though many contemporaries, and distinguished men testified for him. He died February 12, 1839, and is now buried beside Ann in the old Family Cemetery in Oliver, Georgia.
