Immigration John Seward arrived in Virginia Colony 1622 aboard the ship "Gift" also spelled"Guifte" and "Geife". He is listed on the 1624/25 muster list at Elizabeth City, and settled on land that would eventually become Isle of Wight county.|

Muster List He is listed on the 1624/25 muster list at Elizabeth City, and settled on land that would eventually become Isle of Wight county. In 1648 he transported a great number of individuals from England as head rights, receiving 50 acres of land for each person transported. In return he received 50 acres for each individual. (See John AXTON entry for more info on head rights). One of his headrights was JOHN BRUTON, see above. At least some of the land he owned ended up in Surry Co VA, notably the "Blackwater plantation" that he left to son James Seward.
