Hmm, his inscription does indicate that he belongs to this family..

Inscription at St. Finn Barre's Cathedral, Cork.
"To the glory of God and in honoured memory of Thomas Roberts DD sometime Scholar of Trinity College Dublin second son of Sir Thomas Roberts first Baronet of Glassenbury Kent born 11th October 1590 died June 1664In 1631 he was presented to the Rectory of St. John's of Jerusalem by King Charles I was rector of St. Nicholas from 1639 and Chacellor of this diocese 1660 to 1664"

He married 1st Elizabeth daughter of Sir Thomas Neville of Cork and 2ndly to Dorothy daughter of Richard Boyle DD Archbishop of Tuam, by both of whom he left issue. This memorial was placed here by Sir Howland Roberts, 12th and 5th Baronet and the senior member of the family."

Erica Howton presumably the dates and data for the "other" son Thomas Rev. Thomas Roberts Chancellor of County Cork are incorrect & this is in fact the "real" son Thomas.

Family of Sir Thomas Roberts, 1st Bt of Glassenbury & Frances Roberts

from Burke's Extinct baronetcies page 435

Sir Thomas Roberts, of Glassenbury, who was knighted by King James I. at Whitehall, before his coronation, 23rd July, 1603 and was created a Baronet 3rd July, 1620. Parents: Walter Roberts Esq of Glassenbury and Frances Mayard.

Married

  1. Frances, daughter of Martyn James, esq. of Smarden, in Kent, and had issue.

Children

  1. Walter (Sir), his successor.
  2. Thomas, died unmarried.
  3. John, died unmarried.
  4. William.
  5. Frances, m. first, to John Hooper, esq. of Stockberry; and secondly, to Henry Crisp, esq.
  6. Elizabeth, m. to Sir Alexander Culpeper, knt. of Bedgbury.
  7. Anne, m. to Thomas Crisp, esq. of Goudhurst.

Son Thomas is not further described at that Burke’s, which focuses on the main line.

Can double check through wives.

The died young Thomas was a fierce battle to get Gov Thomas Roberts (fishmongers son) off this line.

I just read the story of the Irish line here:

https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/roberts/14019/

It’s high drama! Oh my goodness:

Early in the latter half of the 18th Century, a vessel was wrecked on "Long Rock" in Rocky Bay (Carrig-adda Bay on map), close to Britfieldstown, Co. Cork. Those of the crew who were saved were taken to Britfieldstown House, and in due time passed on to their several destinations.A carriage painter happened to be one of them and was retained for sometime in painting the family carriage and arms thereon. He subsequently returned to England and was, strangely enough, employed in Kent, his native county, to paint the Duchess of St. Alban's carriage. Thus it came to her ears that the man had been lately employed in painting the like coat of arms on the carriage of Randal Roberts of Britfieldstown, Co. Cork, and led to investigation on the part of the Duchess that she recognized him, (vide her will) as next of kin, and 7th baronet, under the patent of 1620, having Glassenbury by will entailed to his grandson or granddaughter. The proofs, of which there are many, are signed by Sir Rowland Roberts, present Baronet, Walworth Howland Roberts, Barrister, William R. Westropp Roberts, Fellow, T.C.D., Kilmoney Abbey.

Saved by the Duchess of St. Albans.

Well, can’t turn that down.

Do we have any evidence for this precise birth date?

October 11, 1590

And surely he was not born in County Cork, Ireland?

Sorry I see his birth date is sourced from memorial.

Can we find a marriage date for the Baronet and / or a birth date for his oldest son and heir?

I have found a record shortly after the death of Sir Thomas Roberts, first Baronet, presumably dealing with his will. It dies indicate that Thomas is still living
1628 DCb/J/J/43/68 Kent Records Office
Pl: Sir Walter ROBERTS Bt son exor; Def.: Lady Frances ROBERTS rel; Thos ROBERTS & John ROBERTS, Frances ROBERTS als CRISPE wife of Henry CRISPE arm & Ann ROBERTS als CRISPE wife of Thos CRISPE childn; Ann COLEPEPPER als SNELGRAVE wife of Thos SNELGRAVE arm dau of Eliz ROBERTS als COLEPPER dau decd; Documents: Sent; Cas

The Baptism date come from [I believe] "Tyler's Index", which indicates Thomas was the second son.

Sir Thomas Roberts is said to have married at Smarden, Kent in 1584 to Frances James, but I am not sure what the source is.
