Who were Cuthbert Fenwick's Parents?

Reputable scholars proposed two alternate sets of parents.

George Fenwick and Barbara Mitford

The Russells state that Cuthbert Fenwick was possibly the son of George and Barbara (Mitford) Fenwick of Langshawes, Nothumberland, but this is not proved. [1]

O'Daniel (1919), also claimed that Cuthbert's baptism took place in 1614 at Ponteland, but asserted that Cuthbert was the fourth son of:[2] George Fenwick of Longshows or Langshaws, a cadet branch of the Fenwicks of Fenwick Tower,[2]

and Barbara, daughter of Robert Mitford.[21]
John Fenwick, Gentleman

In Magna Carta Ancestry (2011), Douglas Richardson says Cuthbert Fenwick was a younger son of John Fenwick, Gentleman, of Brenkley, Northumberland,[22] which is now located in Dinnington par. in Newcastle upon Tyne.[23]

In Royal Ancestry (2013), Richardson states that Cuthbert was christened in Ponteland, Northumberland on 29 December 1614.[4][24]

Further Musings on his parentage from Todd Whitesides:

Cuthbert is frequently misidentified as the fourth son of George Fenwick of Langshaws, apparently by researchers who look for and stop at the easiest Cuthbert Fenwick to be found, as he was listed in one of the Visitations of Northumberland.[1] For further comments on that identification, see the Find A Grave memorial for William Fenwick (1603-1676) of Nunriding.[2] For years I have collected primary and reliable secondary documentation on the many branches of Fenwicks to be found in England, spending much time following leads down to dead ends, looking for my Cuthbert. He obviously wasn't of the senior line at Wallington, and three articles published in Archeologia Æliana, have made it apparent he wasn't likely from the cadet branches at Bitchfield or Brenkley either. In addition I can't find a link for him to the Fenwicks of East Heddon. I've also investigated whether he was the Cuthbert who was a son of William Fenwick (d. 1615) of Whitchester and Newton Garths,[3] but believe it most likely that he was a grandson of William Fenwick (d. 1598) of Prestwick in Ponteland Parish,[4] who was a scion of the Bitchfield line. But even that is guesswork.
