This is what I have found so far on Miriam Jones, mother of Melissa Allen Moore and my 2nd Great grandmother. Miriam, Jones was born on November 4, 1789, in Glasgow, Kentucky. She married John B. Moore, Nov 22, 1809; Mt. Vernon Indiana. They had ten children of which Melissa Allen Moore Marsh was the last survivor. Miriam, the mother, died on June 28, 1837, in Platteville, Wisconsin, at the age of 47.
Melissa Allen Moore was the last survivor of 10 children of John B. and Miriam (Jones) Moore. Her father's family was of old Southern stock and left the South about 1805 on account of unpleasantness created through having freed their slaves. The family was thought to be Methodist or Presbyterian.
During the Civil War one of Mirum's sons, Thomas,, was a Captain in the Confederate Army, while four sons served in the Union army. Of the latter, one, Jonathan B became a Brigadier General, while two, Captain William Moore and Jeremiah C. Moore, were killed in action or died as the result of wounds. Another son James, crossed the plains by covered wagon in 1859, settling in Petaluma CA. Daughter, Melissa Allen Moore Marsh also crossed the plains in a covered wagon with her family when she was a grandmother.
