Elsa Jonsdotter in Svensbyn re-married on the 17th of January 1704 as "hustru"/wife with Nils Johansson. source: ArkivDigital: Piteå landsförsamling (BD) LIa:2 (1659-1715) Bild: 221 Sida: 424

But a hustru Elsa Jonsdotter from Svensbyn appeared in court in the beginning 1703 that a neighbour had damaged the door on her summer pasture home. source ArkivDigital: Svea Hovrätt - Advokatfiskalen Västerbottens län (AC) EXIe:3975 (1703) Bild: 6320 Sida: 621

Women that appeared in court or tax rolls or any other administrative documents as "hustru" had no present husband on the homestead.

So it seems like Elsa Jonsdotter, at least A Elsa Jonsdotter, married two men with the name Nils Johansson.

The first left already 1697-1698 and does not seem to have came back from the Great War.

Because was there a second Elsa Jonsdotter living in Svensbyn at that time?

Yes, Karin, I see what you mean. It looks like our Elsa Jonsdattor may Have married two men with the same name: Nils Johnasson and that her first husband, with the same name, may not have come back from the war. Thank you very much for sharing this discovery.

Sincerely,
Larry Justad

Elin Nils Johansson's; and in 1711 at Svensbyn #25 is listed Nils Johansson. Starting in 1712 P. Karin Nilsdotter is listed at Svensbyn #25.

Hello Lawrence, I made the same list from Piteå mantalslängder. I thought I put it up? Maybe I put it up on another profile... But I made that same list as you have Larry.

Since Elsa, or sometimes Ellsa, is alone at the homestead for quite sometime as in years -, and then an Elsa Jonsdotter marries as "hustru Elsa Jonsdotter" in Svensbyn with a man named Nils Johansson, everything points to that Elsa remarried.

Karin Nilsdotter is most certain Elsa's daughter with the first husband Nils J. concering her age and that the fact that Elsa and Nils no. 2 could not have had a daughter named Karin that took on the homestead because such a daughter would be too young.

And children from the first spouse inherited not the child group with a second spouse depending on who's homestead it was: mother's or father's. But the first set of children often hade a stronger legal claim than the second group.

I put the listing of the husförhörslänger under "Nils Johansson Krus".

Nils Johansson Krus

Hi again,

note that in every jordebok, indelningsrulla and röklängder in the länsräkenskaper (county records) the woman on Svensbyn nr 25 is always referred to as "Elin", never Elsa.

I do not know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, having in mind that the woman's name in church records shift between "Elsa" and "Elin".

Just so you all know.
