I'm a Gambrell descendant and we've always had a brick wall on our line before America. We know from Y-DNA that we aren't the same Y-haplogroup as the Kent, England Gambrells (by any spelling variation). My DNA indicates a likely French ancestry and there is the family rumor that our line were French Huguenots who went to Holland, Ireland and Scotland before coming to America. So I've been trying to find additional info. I came across this site:
https://www.werelate.org/wiki/User:PhilGambrel/Gambrel_Family_Research
and it references this Anne Marriott and her son Augustine Gambrill. The info is different from what is here on Geni and I don't know who has it correct. The info on this site lists Anne's husband as Richard, not Joshua. Here is a copy-and-paste on the section on Anne and her family:
"There are some researchers who believe that Augustine Gambrill, whose mother was Ann Mariott, was the son of Ricardo Gambra, whose name became aglicized to Richard Gambrill. I do not know if this is true or not. It is certainly plausible. I would like to know the religious affiliations of different familes. I would guess that Catholics and Protestants did not mix. Were the Gambras Catholic? What about the Marriotts? I have uncovered one claim that Ricardo Gambra's widow married a Milstead. It has been documented that Edward Milstead, Anne's grandfather, was a vestryman in the Anglican Church..."
Minutes later I searched my Ancestry matches for the Gambra surname and came up with a match with the lineage given on the link above and in the excerpt with Anne's husband as Ricardo Gambra aka Richard Gambrill, son of Domingo Gambra (Gambrill).
That's more than I know about Joshua who is connected here on Geni as Richard's father even though Domingo Gambra is connected as one of Anne's husbands.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any additional info to shed light on which of her husbands was actually Augustine's father - Joshua Gambrill or Ricardo Gambra aka Richard Gambrill.
