That's a nice clue that his mother, known only as Elizabeth Kelce on his marriage record, was a Reese: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/2684018:61381
Even better, she's a Reese on the death certificate of Thomas' brother Eli, who was also on the 1900 census: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/755169516:5164
