William Calhoun Is showing with 2 DNA Markers: R-FGC42483 & E-L117, which is impossible. So there’s a pedigree error in geni.

E-L117 was propagated from the profile of Private User profile manager inactive. His ancestor report:

Oh lordy, Erica, that's all too much for me to unravel

Erica, that's the kind of scenario I've talked about - where a person adds their DNA results on FTDNA to a specific Y-DNA project and they put who they believe to be their direct ancestor. They get linked up to that person with the Y-DNA that they got on their results. That works great UNLESS they have a tree error and enter an ancestor error in their submission to the DNA project. Then they connect it all on Geni and we don't know which of the conflicting Y-DNAs is correct. One of those guys could be adopted and not know it or otherwise not be a biological descendant on a line they believe they come from or they could just have a tree error and be mistaken about who the ancestor is. Here on Geni we would have no idea which of those scenarios is the case.

Yes, but I just figured it out.

  1. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/178419037/person/3... No proven parentage
    1. I'm currently working on a project with CCIS - Clan Colquhoun International Society. Where we are starting a genealogy department for the society so that Colquhoun's of any branch can get help tracing their Colquhoun Lines. ColquhounFamilyHistorian https://www.ancestry.com/profile/00ec46ce-0003-0000-0000-000000000000
    2. Y-DNA Parentage E-M35 - E-FT32806 - Branches off of James Patrick Calhoun Sr's haplogroup - E-FT32806. Not off the line of Hugh Calhoun II son of Hugh Calhoun Sr born 1692

By looking at the two ancestor reports on geni, I noticed the geographic discrepancy here:

8. James Calhoun b. 1750, Virginia, United States; d. 1776, Revolutionary War
9. Hugh Calhoun, II b. April 23, 1725, Drummontolen, Donegal, Ireland; d. 1799, Long Cane, Abbeville, South Carolina, USA

So either Hugh ll lived in Virginia, James was actually born in SC, or there were 2 different James (most likely.)

37 out of 40 matching MyHeritage trees give the same pedigree, there are two with no parents listed.

Then I looked on ancestry until I found a big red sign:

No proven parentage

And that’s the tree with the Y DNA analysis.

I’m detaching James Calhoun as son of Hugh Calhoun, II & Jennett Calhoun

I also think it would be cool for you (Debbie) to reach out to “https://www.ancestry.com/profile/00ec46ce-0003-0000-0000-000000000000” when we have questions.

And now we’re fixed.

I’ve been able to resolve every Y DNA conflict case I’ve seen.

Probably not your lines but a cool site and and interesting project.

Awesome! Great job!

But, if you can resolve Y DNA conflicts, here's the one on my son's paternal line. I already messaged the conflicting Ingram guy years back and never got any response. This is my son's dad's profile:

Private

I never could get it resolved, so posted this note in his profile:

Conflict in Y-DNA is due to David Ingram's results posted on Geni. This Leonard Ingram's son has been Y-DNA tested, as have one of 1st cousins and one of his 2nd cousins and they're all I-M253

I’ll spin off discussion on that one.

Meanwhile, I'm still mirroring through my tree on the MacAuselans and Coloqhouns in an effort to make sure everything matches up and is as well-documented as possible. Lots of distractions today and I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I may not get as much done as quickly as I'd like until later in the week.

With regard to SC vs. Virginia, I read on one documents I was looking at that one moved to SC, wasn't born there. I'll have to relocate that and share what it said.
