It would make sense that Benjamin (1832-1899) would name his second child (first son) Benjamin, either after himself or his father.
However, Eliza is born Sept 1861, Franklin apparently in 1862 and Maria in March 1866. This does not really leave any time for an extra child, in fact Franklin's DOB actually looks wrong making another child in 1863 even less likely.
I would suggest a neater solution would be that the lad's name was actually Benjamin Franklin Hughes and his DOB was 1863. This would also explain the lack of any other data for the son "Franklin".
Makes sense. Who would a young American with a Samoan wife in Samoa want to remind himself of where he came from? But to name his first son Benjamin Franklin and second son George Washington? Benjamin, the father from New York is the captain not Benjamin II Robert who was a builder and is noted for his work in Samoa especially in Falelatai.
