My grandma told this story about grandpa when he was younger.

When my grandpa was 15 or 15 1/2 he left his village and went to the city to find work because there wasn't much of that in his village. He and one of his friends rented an apartment and found jobs at a shoe factory. After working there a little while, and because food, clothes and everything else was scarce, he stole a pair of shoes from the factory and brought them back to his mom in the village. When his mom saw the shoes, she took him straight to the river and made him throw the shoes away. It was her way of teaching him not to steal. Good thing, I guess, since my grandpa is the nicest person I know today.
