Names of Places or Towns

The program wont let me type names of towns for places of births or deaths, other than those in its memory. I tried to use names of certain places in Bolivia which were different prior to Independence in 1825, such as La Plata for Sucre or Villa de Oropesa before it was officially called by its actual name of Cochabamba. However, the program automatically corrects you and if you insist, it erases the name entered. Is there anything which can be done to allow typing a name of a place that the program does not recognized as valid?

Geni does not correct anything if you click on the "Location details" and fill in for example the City field directly.

In any case you should always open the "Location details" to see what the query to Google Maps which is done when using the simple field have filled in.

Thanks. I'll try your suggestion but I think the problem of using for instance Constatinopla for the actual Istambul is that only the modern name of towns as shown in Google Maps, is allowed and the program corrects it to the modern name or version employed at present. Regards, Rolando

It is not a problem, - the Google Maps auto lookup is a helper tool and as you say not suitable for historical places.

This Google Map lookup is ONLY used on the simple location field and is also based on YOUR location/language and not suitable for an international place like Geni where at least I prefer French and German names on French and German places instead of the mysteriopus English names Google Map presents you for.

Drop using that field and fill in whatever value you want in the detailed fields.
