I think for the majority of the times that one posts a discussion in a public discussion that the profiles that load should be that of curators and that of Geni Staff, doesn't that make sense?

It would recognize if you're citing a relative using the @ symbol anyhow, though currently it recognizes very few curators or Staff.

If it were a family discussion, I understand but not "Public Discussions" That should populate with curators, all of them and the staff, if the issue is more technical.

It wouldn't make sense, since so many other people OUTSIDE the big tree would be able to do that, and I certainly don't want to work on John Doe who just barely started his tree, and keeps messing up because he doesn't know what he's doing. I don't get paid for this and I don't want someone bothering me about their tree.

I figure if you know about Curating and the Big Tree, then you need to send the curators a collaboration request and be able to tag them that way...the way it is now.

I shouldn't have said, "someone bothering me about their tree." I should have said, "a new person, outside the Big Tree, asking me to help them with their tree."

I'm certainly not out to bother and in this case not requesting help with my tree, most of which are dead or unknown to me, though I understand what you mean about being bothered with someone who not only doesn't comprehend but doesn't listen to guided instructions.

I understand ones frustrations - On the topic of requesting your collaboration or any curator, doesn't that essentially make you pare of the tree, in that you can just fix whatever the problem that was cited.

While makes things much smoother in rectifying the issue, though it doesn't teach, and the primary purpose of aid is to get one to become self sufficient. Hence, less bothersome.

Appreciate the feedback, Mimi - Have a great day.

When you say "Big Tree" do you mean "Public"?

But I'm on your side with the term "Bothered" not sure you should not have referenced it that way - Though I think a person should at least be given one opportunity, to demonstrate his or her capabilities in the ability to follow direct accurate instructions before being deemed ignorant to the use of in this case a pretty user friendly site.

Be well ; ^))

I feel if you are not already part of the "Big Tree" (the thousands of trees that are attached together) then you need to contact the help-desk and talk to a paid employee, rather than me. I'm a volunteer, not a worker-bee.

So in order to become "less bothersome" because the person is new and unknowing, they need to go bother people who get paid for it. If they SHARE a tree or are connected to a tree I created, collaborate on, or manage, then I don't mind helping them...because they ARE a part of the Big Tree Project.

Feel free to click here and scroll half way down the page for information on the Big Tree:

or this is a "story" on the big tree:

With all due respect, the act of volunteer work, it is "Voluntary" NOT a forced upon act, perhaps their should be setting for volunteers as to what they are willing to volunteer to do - Just a thought.

I will read on the Big Tree. I'm just noting that some may be enlightened to help a new user while others engage in only certain things that coincide with their preference or agenda.

Well, as stated I did read up on the links you've provided, and I see the growth on Geni and the money generated through external links by way of Pay per Click and so forth.

But it is not my intention to ever collaborate, I'm content within my tree, though I recognize that perhaps someone in the family tree can cause this tree, unknowingly to join others, should that ever be the case, drawn in as a result of ignorance then I will simply remove myself from the current tree and venture on to my own little bush - I don't believe in the we're all connected, in fact we certainly are not.

I imagine your gripes are attributed to not becoming a paid employee, based on the amount of time and effort you've put in and this is precisely why there should be a settings feature for curators as to what one is volunteering for, because I understand that helping people who can't find their way around things is never ending.

I know you're a massage therapist and I know the nature of that business because I know many, much like trainers in high end gyms and spa's.

Business is sporadic, client go on vacations and it's not easy to fill the breaks in schedules and the independent side of the business involves much travel, while one may generate more on that end, between travel time, that too can vary but in the gym or spa, employee's are exploited and cancellations within 24 hours go unpaid - I've been into physical fitness for many years and that is what I've come to learn from employee's.

Life - Nothing comes easy, the exception being problems, they seem to mount rather quickly - Anyway, I personally wish you the best in life, applicable to all your endeavors.

Ed.

Actually, in a way we are all connected, though not through lineage but through the chaotic circumstances of life.

I'm a Licensed Master Plumber and much like any other business, cost of insurance, Employee theft, related to side work, medical and the list goes on and on - So in the form of life's suffering, we're indeed connected.
