Was she the daughter of Samuel Nash or of Philippe de Lannoy (1602-bef.1681) & Hester Dewsbury (1613-bef. 1657)

Esther Soule

What seems to be a very reliable source:
The Genealogy, History and Alliances of The American House of Delano, 1621-1899 p. 151
http://ghaahd.net/slides/GHAAHD_Page_151.cfm

Says that she was cited in Samuel Nash's will, so I guess that's the next document to recover? But in the meantime, I wonder if the Delano Family claims her or not?

She lived to age 95, bless her heart. :)

She was not the daughter of my ancestor many times, Philippe Delannoy.
I am a Historian and a Genealogist with books published. Regards.

Thank you so much. If I may, I will make sure your comment is cited in the Master Profile.

Was there another Esther Delano, daughter of Philippe Delannoy, whose birth was noted but death is not known?

Dear Erica:
Here are the children of Philippe Delannoy, I wrote 2 books about the descendants since I am his descendant on several sides and a 3 times Mayflower descendant. I am from Chile, South America, in Chile, all the Delano's are Mayflowers.
Children of PHILLIPPE DE LANNOY and HESTER DEWSBURY are:
2. i. JONATHAN LT.2 DELANO, b. Abt. 1647, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. December 23, 1720, Dartmouth, Bristol, Mass.
3. ii. MARY DELANNOY, b. 1635, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. November 29, 1655, Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts.
4. iii. ESTHER DELANO, b. March 06, 1637/38, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. September 12, 1733, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
5. iv. PHILIP DELANO, b. 1640, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. 1708, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
6. v. THOMAS DELANO, b. March 21, 1641/42, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. April 22, 1723, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
7. vi. JOHN DELANNOY, b. 1644, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. Aft. 1690.
vii. JANE DELANNOY, b. 1646, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. February 28, 1676/77.
viii. REBECCA DELANNOY, b. 1651, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. April 06, 1709.
8. ix. SAMUEL DELANO, b. 1659, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts; d. 1728, Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
He had a daughter with that name, but your dates are different. perhaps this is the person you are looking for. Let me know.

Hello folks. I was reading thru these posts and noted that both Esther Sampson and Esher Delano died on the same day?
That would explain why there was so much confusion but is it actually the case.?

Confusion by which source, Richard? :)

I don't know cuz I didn't come up with the info, I kinda got this info from the geni site. Marcela's info is obviously very trustworthy. I don't know about the info on Esther Nash. But, Lydia's Soule's gravestone has the Sep 12, 1733 date.

Correction, my bad. The gravestone say 1?35.
Still, it's Sept 12th.

I thought you were saying September 12 too so you're not "bad" at all. You've helped unsort this mess and I started a new (hopefully correct now) Unknown Profile

Was it September 12 a bad day in Duxbury?

I would like to know how this family came to be on my Geni page. My Mother's name was Delaney would this have derived from Delanno or Delanoy ??? My Greatgrandfather John Delaney was born in Michigan in the 1700's ,married & had one son John who married Minnie Sloath. & had one daughter Pearl who married Stanley Smith ( The Delaney line ended there ) John Snr. came to Ireland & married Margaret Foyle & had 12 children one of whom was my Grandfather Joseph. It was not known in the family that my Great Grandfather had come from the USA & had already been married. Now maybe his wife had passed away --I don't know But my Grandfather didn't know he had two brother's called John --one being a half brother . Do you have any info on this family or how does your family connect with mine ???? I would love to know any info that you have.. Many Thanks, Rosaleen Butler -Kelly daughter of Roseanne Delaney & Matthew Costello. ( Ireland )

Do you think that maybe this is actually the case? That is that Esther Nash Sampson Soule died on Sept 12, 1735 and Esther Delano died Sept 12, 1733. I think that would be logical and would definitely explain all the confusion - and believe me, I AM Confused.

As far as I know there is no relationship between the Delano name and the Delaney name. But I haven't researched the question, either. It would be interesting to look into if you were so inclined.

Richard if I understand correctly, the confusion between Esther Delanos was only corrected in 1898 with the discovery of Samuel Nash's will naming his daughter. So earlier Colonial America researchers were using best logic - could most likely have been this one, only similar person to fit the parameters. You go to a secondary source, even a really good one, you're still not 100% sure. And primary sources, not always available, need interpretation and understanding as well.

I still wonder about 3 Septemer 12ths though.

That perspective helps - thanks.
You've been doing this stuff a while, I imageine yu come up with bunches of such weird coincidences.

Well, now I got find some other issue with which to "stir the pot". LOL

Asking questions is the way into making family research come alive to me. So whatever grabs Your curiosity is good. I use google a lot to learn more.

Erica,

I took the liberty of cahnging the date oif Ester's death in her profile to 1935 (as per her gravestone). I also changed the spelling of her first name to match what's on the graveston as well.

Hope that's okay. On tho the next mystery!

Thank you for your reply. I'm very interested to know if there is a connection. I mean why would your questions & answers appear on my Geni page otherwise. I'd really appreciate if you can come up with some info. regarding this relationship. Again many thanks,
Regards Rosaleen.

I suspect you are "following" this discussion.

Click "unfollow" at the top of the thread to end receiving notifications about it.

As to why it showed on your "home" page to begin with, my guess (only a guess) is that is has to do with projects and names of interest to you.

More info about geni functions available from the help link at the bottom of every geni page.

To help you more with your mystery Delaney, we really need to see a link to his geni profile. You can start a discussion "from" that profile if it is set to public - that's what I did with "this" discussion. And that way other Delaney family researchers can help out Berger.

I'm not a Delano myself .... My direct ancestry may be with the Sampson / Nash side.

Hope this helps.

"Berger" was supposed to be "better!". One finger typing on an iPad has it's issues;

Richard

The profile looks good, many thanks for the fix.

I look forward to playing detective again. Tons of mysteries to unfold!

Erica,
Many thanks for your sugestion. I will get my son to help create the link, I'm not so good at this. My eldest daughter is also Erica, called after her Dad Eric. Again many thanks & good luck with the research of your ancesters.

Rosaleen.

I am glad to be of help. I actually know about the Butler name because of a collaborator on geni.

You have excellent taste in first names! :)

Captain Paul Delano is my ancestor, I am a descendant of two of his grandchildren: Jose Gregorio Delano Campos and Maria Teresa Delano Edwards. I renovated his tomb in Talcahuano a few years ago. he was a heroe of the wars of Independence, and particularly of Peru. I have many things that were in his house, like the silver cuttlery. So, I am a double Delano myself but my field of interest at this point is only the Delano family in Chile, all the Delanos in Chile are direct descendants of him.
Regards.

Hello : All I can think is I must have done a merge; something I will never do again.
Regards, Ken

Profile Comments updated 10/1/2022 to resolve the confusion surrounding Esther's parents.
Click on her profile at the upper left. She is thought to have been the daughter of Philip Delano (1602-1681) and his 1st wife, Hester Dewsbury (married 19 Dec 1634, and she died before he remarried Mary Pontus 17 Jan 1653).

The origin of the confusion seems to have been an article written in 1898 that made the incorrect assumption that Esther was the daughter of Samuel Nash (1602-1682) based on a misreading by that author of his will. Instead of a daughter, Esther was the wife of Samuel Nash's grandson, Samuel Sampson (1635-1679).

Dean Richard Hobart - thank you very much for clarifying the Geni profile. Much appreciated.
