Mehitable Johnson, daughter of Humphrey Johnson and Ellen Cheney of Roxbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony, was born in September 1644,[1] baptized 29 March 1646. She married 1st to of Samuel Hinsdale.

She married second to John Root, who was killed by Indians 19 September 1677 at Deerfield, while he was preparing their lot for building their house.[5]

1. Thankful, b. 12 Feb 1677 Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts; m. Thomas Welles.

Mrs. Mehitable Root prob, m. (3) March 11, 1679, Deacon John Colman of Hadley, Mass., as his second wife.
