About Robert Vaughn "Red" Schafer
"Red" was All-State Fullback on the 1928 State "Class A" Championship Team at Bay City Central High School. Robert and Alice were married on September 19, 1936 in Royal Oak. He worked for his family's Bay City Plumbing and Heating Company as a plumber, as vice president and as father. Robert was the Sherriff of Bay County in 1947 and 1948 and resided with Alice at 2308 Woodside Avenue. Robert was a member of B.P.O.E. (Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks) Lodge 88 and its Retirees. He was always active in various civic functions. Robert and Alice were members of St. Boniface Church. Robert resided in Essexville in Bay County at his death. He died in 1985 at the age of 76 at the Bay Medical Center. He was survived by his wife, three sons, seven grandchildren, and a brother.
