In his travels around the world, Prof. Bartlett learned & documented local languages. He collected documentation of the N. Sumatran tribe which wrote on sticks. A kind of "Rossetta Stone" on sticks for Batak language was collected & donated to Harvard collections. Most anthropologists studying Batak later were able to understand because of the efforts of Prof. HH Bartlett. Prof. BARTLETT became fluent in many of the languages of places he travelled & collaborated across disciplines because of his expertise in languages as well as botany.
