Hello,

According to a tree on family search, Hirsch Abraham Freund was the son of Josef Seligmann Freund (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LYWH-KQL).

Is there any source for Abraham Freund as his father (besides the fact that Abraham was supposedly his second name)?

On the overview section of this profile, there is the following text:

"[from a paper by Dr. Siegfried Rudolph of Mitwitz]

The house v. Wurtzburg Str. nb 8, which was bought by his grandfather Hirsch Josef Freund in 1799."

Since Hirsch was born in 1765, I'm guessing that the person who bought the house was not his grandfather, who, if alive, would be quite old in 1799. Instead, it seems that the text refers to Hirsch himself as someone's grandfather (perhaps to Dr. Siegfried Rudolph).

If that would be the case, is it possible that Hirsch was not Hirsch Abraham son of Abraham, but rather Hirsch Josef son of Josef Seligmann?

Looking forward to hear the manager's thoughts on this.

Thank you,
Felipe

Actually, it seems that the primary source of the citation of Dr. Siegfried Rudolph's paper comes from the Stern & Loebl Families Database.

Such citation was saved, as a note, to Herman Freund's profile (http://sternmail.co.uk/sld/getperson.php?personID=I4539&tree=SL...). Herman was the son of Abraham Hirsch Freund and, therefore, Hirsch's grandson.

In view of that, it seems that the best available source points to the fact that "Hirsch Abraham" was actually called "Hirsch Josef" and was likely the son of Josef Seligmann (Freund), who "started" the Freund lineage in Mitwitz after moving there from Redwitz (https://www.alemannia-judaica.de/mitwitz_synagoge.htm):

"Die gesamte Freund-Familie stammt ursprünglich aus Redwitz, erstes Ziel an diesem Tag, von wo ein Joseph Seligmann – Familiennamen mussten die Juden erst zu Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts sich zulegen, Seligmann ist der Vatersname – 1754 nach M. umzog. Der Redwitzer Teil der Familien nahm dort den Namen 'Wald' an, es existierte zeitweise eine größere Strumpfwarenfabrik".

As to Dr. Siegfried Rudolph, the cited paper is from 1993, so he obviously was not Hirsch's grandson, as previously conjectured in the absence of the complete information. Nevertheless, it seems that he has produced some very comprehensive material in regard to the jewish families in Mitwitz and surroundings. I would be very glad if someone has access yo such material and could share it with me.

Thank you,
Felipe
