A family history written in the 1950s and 1960s gives undocumented middle names to Powhatan and his parents, listing them as "Powhatan Valentine Boatright," "John Joseph Boatwright," and "Frances Elizabeth Tinsley." Court records in Virginia and Kentucky for John and Frances Boatwright, and in Kentucky, Arkansas, and Louisiana for Powhatan, do not support middle names for either John or Frances. In only one record in Kentucky do records give a middle initial for Powhatan, listing him 1836-1841 as "Powhatan B. Boatright," the same name as his son. It appears that the middle names given in this Boatwright family history may be inaccurate.
