this has been updated in 2020, message me for details.

As of 2019-2022 researching the "Irish Riddle" family. I can provide a source list of what has been checked so far.

I have also researched Ridlon's lines that supposedly married into the Riddell family and have found no consistancy of all the lilnes he mentions including the following famiies: Bell, Campbell, Clark, Cowan, Douglas, Gordon, Hamilton, Henderson, Howel, Patterson, Patton Thompson and Wilson. (Note: You would expect that all the surnames indicated by Ridlon would occur in the same place at the same time in two generations, but this has not been the case in the current research in 2022) A more reliable indicator of who would have been present in Ireland with the Riddell family is the Londonderry, New Hampshire list and the Governor Shute Petition, Petition to form Wyndham and pew rent lists from Londonderry, New Hampshire

Ridlon ignores the following:

The connection of the Londonderry, Northern Ireland Riddells with
1. Riddell familes that were in Londonderry, New Hampshire on Governor Shute's petition of 1719, County Down Ireland and families affiliated with the Scottish Riddells are included: Christy, Kerr, Carre, Orr, Taggart and Morrison.

2. Because of the volume of data discovered the Riddell (Riddle) families will be discussed separate from the families who married into the Riddell line.

3. Further complicating the process are differentiating the Riddells who came with DeCourcy (Normans in 1100s), military bounty lands rewarded in Ireland to Riddell family in Antrim counties.

4. Another factor currently included in the study is weather or not Riddell or Riddles came to Ireland as part of forced transportation Scotland (such as the Riddells of Argyle) or as a result of the Battle of Worcester (see SPOWS website https://spows.org/) Which indicates that no Riddells came as a result of that conflict.

5.The Hamilton Plantation in County Down may play a part in the story of the Riddell migration as it is composed mainly of Ulster Scots and there are Riddells and Orrs present in this county at the same time in the 1700s. The Down Survey is one of the sources examined.

6. Grifffiths Valuation in conjunction with The Encumbered Estates records may be used to determine histories of properties in Northern Ireland. But these Encumbered Estate properties are only those being sold, so the list may be incomplete. Also the Griffiths Revision books may help because they list the number or lives for the lease. Freeholds are usually granted by the major landholders or the crown and usually the lands for the military grants are in less airable properties and near the borders of Ulster to protect the "frontier". Before King James plantation scheme. During Elizabethan times, more land grants were given to English and Londonderry Guild companies aka the Irish Society. Many early maps show the locations of these early Guild Companies.

7. Londonderry, Northern Ireland Port Books, Templemore and Londonderry Cathedral records, and Aghadowey Parish records have been examined during the course of the 2022 Londonderry, Northern Ireland research project.
