After the Revolutionary War he moved to Kentucky, taking with him a nephew also named Abraham. This Abraham was known as Abraham Jr., he was a son of Jacob Cassell.

The sword used by him in the Rev. War was passed down to a Great Grandson, John L. Cassell of Harrodsburg , Jessamine County, Ky.

Private Abraham Cassell State Militia 1776-1778

Abraham Cassell, son of John Jacob & Margaretta (Burkhart) Cassell, was born 25 September 1756, in Wakefield Valley, Frederick County, Maryland. [2][3][4] On 24 April 1782, he married first, Catherine Lingenfelter in Frederick County, Maryland; [5][6] on 24 December 1801, he married second, Sarah Rice in Kentucky. [7] He died 8 February 1840, in Lexington, Fayette County Kentucky [8] and is buried in Lexington Cemetery. [9][10]

Private Cassell enlisted in Frederick County, Maryland, in 1776, in Captain Abram Huff's Company, Colonel Charls Beatty's Regiment, and served three months. In 1778, he enlisted for three months in Captain Smith's Company, Colonel Wood's Regiment, and after staying in Georgetown a few weeks, guarded British prisoners at Frederick town. [11][12][13][14]

ABRAHAM CASSELL R.W.S. was living in Jessamine County, when he applied for a pension, February 11, 1832. He was 77 years old at the time. He had enlisted into service in Frederick County, Maryland, in 1776. Abraham Cassell died May 26, 1844. His widow, Catharine (Lingenfelter) Cassell, applied for his pension on December 21, 1844. She was 84 years old at this time. She and Abraham were married in Frederick County, April 24, 1782. Mentions: some of their children and gives dates of birth.
