Grandfather Abraham played a prominent roll in The Battle of Kings Mountain. A Tory sympathizer, he and a man named Peter Quinn were dispatched in September 1780 by British Col. Patrick Ferguson to seek reinforcements from Cornwallis after he learned of a gathering Patriot force in the Kings Mountain area. Grandfather Collins and Peter Quinn were delayed however, and did not deliver the message until October 7, 1780 - the day of the battle. Col. Ferguson lost and was killed in the battle, which forced Cornwallis to retreat from Charlotte, North Carolina. The Patriot victory has been called the turning Point of the Revolutionary War. Grandfather Abraham also gained notoriety as a counterfeiter, and was arrested for the crime on June 20, 1805, but the case was dismissed on a technicality. Source: Marion T.
