About Adalbert, duke of Moselle [Fictitious Person]
Adalbert is a fictitious person
He is said to have been:
- Son of Clodion le Chevelu
- Father of fictitious Wambert
Adalbert is first named in Annales de la province et comté d'Haynau (1648) in an attempt to present a line from Clodionto Charlemagne. This genealogy is repeated in 1829 by Jacques de Guyse and Jean Lefèvre in their Histoire du Hainaut.
Jacques Saillot, in Les fils et petits-fils de Clovis et leurs alliances - thèses et hypothèses, gives an Alberic (c. 460 † 515) son of King Clodebaud of Cologne (grandson of Clodion the Chevelu) and Argothe, daughter of King Theodoric of the Ostrogoths. His statement is no more valid than the preceding one.
The fifth century historian Priscus of Panium wrote of a disputed inheritance within the Frankish royal family. He did not name names but the dead father was probably Chlodio while the two disputing sons were probably Merovech and Adelbert.
Bertelius goes into more detail about Adelbert, who he calls Albero, but Bertelius's sources are unknown and his work should be taken as legend rather than history.
Herbert discusses Priscus, Bertelius, and a few other historians's work about Adelbert.

His ancestry is continued elsewhere on this tree. Adelbert's father was Sigimaerus I Auvergne and his mother was Miss Tonantius. His paternal grandparents were Clodion (Clodius Long Haired) Franks and Basina Thuringia; his maternal grandparents were Ferreolus Tonantius and Miss Avitus. He had a brother named Tonantius II. He was the older of the two children.
