About Anna Allender

The will of Anna Allender has been repeatedly referred to and often summarized in the past by researchers of the Allender family. It is copied in full below from a copy of the original in Maryland Archives.

In the name of God Amen, I Anna Allender of Washington County and State of Maryland being weak and sick of Body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all women once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the Hands of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to lie devoutly human in Christian burial, at the discretion of my son-in-law George Webb, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall recieve the same again by the power of almightly God and as touching such worldy estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and devise of the same in the following manner and form. --First, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anna Negro Rachel, and feather Bed and bedstead, and pair of five sheets one pair of blankets, two pillows and a Bolster one quilt --also I give to my son John Negro Abraham and Negro Grace one low Bed back one pair of two sheets and one Blanket one Counterpane one twilled Bolster; also it is my will and desire that my daughter Anna doth pay four pounds to my daughter Elizabeth out of the above mentioned property that she is to recieve. Likewise it is my will and desire that my son John doth pay five pounds to my daughter Aberila out of the above mentioned property that he is to recieve; also I give and bequeathe to my daughter Margaret one light barrel and one two handle stone crock and tea chest. I give and bequeath to my son William one large stone jug, also I give to my son Thomas one large Bible also it is my will and desire that my daughter Anna and my son John each of them doth pay ten shillings each to my daughter Sarah out of the property aforementioned that they are to recieve. I also give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Anna Webb, daughter of John Webb, one large pine chest, and spoon mold, also I constitute and approve my son-in-law George Webb sole executor of this my last will and testament to distribute those my goods above named according to my will and desire and to free my slave Herse and have Dutch oven and all the property I have not willed away to pay my small debts and to defray my burial charges and if there be anything left the said George Webb shall have it for his trouble in witness there of, I have set my Hand and seal this fifth day of March one thousand eight hundred and four.

Washington County court on the 21st day of March 1806 came George Webb and made oath that this is the true and whole will of Anna Allender late of this county, Decd also that has come to his hands and possession and that he doth not know of any others. --Certified by George Comack Reg.

On the same day and year above George Webb the executorer of the written will appointed relinquished all his rights and title to said Executorship in and by nature of said appointment --Certified by George Comack, reg.
