Benjamin A. Ernst
Services for Benjamin A. Ernst, 81, formerly of 2095 Coates St., will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where full military honors will be accorded by members of Dubuque American Legion, Post six. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where a parish wake service will be said at 8 p.m.
Mr. Ernst was formerly employed at Dubuque Packing Company and at The Boys club.
He was born Jan. 26, 1907, in Dubuque son of Ben L. and Mary (Reuter) Ernst. He married Marie A. Hentges April 24, 1929; she died July 2, 1986. He lived in Dubuque all his life.
He died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, 1988, at Stonehill Care Center, of natural causes.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and during the Korean War.
He was a member of Dubuque American Legion Post six; and Disabled American Veteran.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Heim and Mrs. Eugene (Margaret) Douglas, both of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Margaret) Baumhover, Mrs. Ed (Marie) Oskorep, and Mrs. Arthur (Bernetta) Boivin, both of Chicago; two brothers, Albert "Happy" Ernst of Dubuque and Duke R. of Bancock, Thailand.
A Benjamin A. Ernst Memorial Fund has been established.
