About Capt. Joseph Leigh
Joseph Leigh of Portsmouth, NH, commissary in Revolutionary War. Brother of Cpt. Thomas Leigh of Berwick, Maine; and of John Leigh in English Navy, who returned to England at start of Revolutionary War.

- The New Jerusalem Magazine, Volume 15, Issue 3. Page 100. "Gleanings from old letters.". [The letters from which the following extracts are made, were written to Mr. Joseph Leigh, of Portsmouth, N. H. In the year 1791, he became acquainted at Demarara, with Mr. James Glen, who put into his hands Arcana Coelestia, and other works of Swedenborg; from a perusal of which he became a zealous advocate of the doctrines of the New Church. In the early part of 171)7 he invited the attention of the public to these doctrines by publications in "The Sun," a paper printed at Dover, N. H. J. F.] Baltimore, October, 1841.
