BIOGRAPHY On 13 November 1920 it was announced that twenty-eight-year-old Lady Diana Cooper, the most beautiful woman of the day, had at last agreed to appear as a film actress. A handsome offer had been made to her by a film director named J. Stuart Blackton. Rumours of this venture had been circulating for some time.
In 'The Daily Telegraph' of 27 September 2013 appeared an interview between Neil Tweedie and John Julius Norwich, the son of Lady Diana Cooper:
'Diana was born at Belvoir Castle in 1892. Her supposed father was the eigth Duke of Rutland, but she was in fact the product of a long affair between her mother and the Honourable Henry 'Harry' Cust, of the neighbouring Belton estate. Was she troubled by her illegitimacy?
'Not in the slightest, Henry Cust was a lovely man, worth 20 of the Duke, who only thought about the number of pheasants he had killed, and spent all his money on 'actresses.
