Dorothy Leone (Finch) Waite, born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920, Orland, California, a beautiful woman inside and out! Her major accomplishment was raising all five of her children, and being married to James Walter Waite from 1942 to 2009 when she parted this world. That was exactly one year and ten days before Jim found her again!
She gained her teaching credential from San Jose State University, in 1941, majoring in domestic studies and a minor in English. She was a very social person and had a wonderful singing voice. Raised as a Methodist in Orland California, her parents, Murry Carley Finch and Lottie Celesta Hauenstein, had seven children.
Her parents met while homesteading in Scranton, North Dakota area with other family members.
Family moved to Orland, Ca, 1911, when the irrigation project was completed in Northern California.
Dorothy's Father began farming almonds and raising sheep, always managed to keep his pioneer spirit alive with the help of his family.
