The Lawson family of TN is descended from John and Dymie Crocker Lawson of Cork Co, Ireland. The Lawsons were of Scotch-Irish descent and came from Ireland to Pennsylvania and from there to all points of the compass. John Lawson moved from North Carolina (apparently moved to NC after leaving PA) to Georiga with his new wife Dymie Crocker. John then returned to North Carolina to work for a time as a surveyor. While there he was captured by Indians and burned at the stake. His wife Dymie in his absence killed three Indians with a broad axe while they were trying to enter her home to scalp her and her infant son, James. (From The Heritage, Official Publication of the Crawford County, Arkansas, Historical Society, as submitted by Ora Smith.)
Child of John and Dymie Lawson:
- James Lawson, b. 1758.
