About Edwin Eugene Mayer
Edwin Eugene Mayer graduated from the North Pacific College of Oregon with a degree in Pharmacy on June 18, 1919. He was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Beta Iota Chapter. The college at that time was in downtown Portland.
The Oregonian, April 11, 1956, Obituary: Edwin E. Mayer, 60, general manager and executive vice president of Sawyer's, Inc. died today en route to a hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home in in Oswego.
Mayer had been a partner in Sawyer’s for 37 years, the longest anyone had been with the firm.
He purchased Carlton Sawyer’s interest in the photo-finishing firm in 1919. Prior to that, Mayer had done photographic work while employed in a drug store in The Dalles. He was a graduate pharmacist.
He was president of Sawyer’s photo company until 1939, when the View-Master stereo line was marketed and the firm was incorporated. He was active in the management of the stereo line which is distributed world-wide.

Mayer was born in Pe Ell, Wash., August 23, 1896. He lived in Vancouver, Wash., and The Dalles before coming to Portland in 1917.
He was active in Catholic lay work and was a director of Catholic Charities board, member of board of directors of Loyola Retreat association, president of the Friends of the Library of the University of Portland, past president of the Serra Club, a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus and a member of Lady of the Lake parish in Lake Oswego.
He also was active in the United Fund.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Rose Mayer, Portland; his wife, Eva; sons, Donald, Portland; Edwin Mayer Jr., Oswego, and Thomas, student at San Jose, Cal.; daughters, Mrs. Margaret M. Uffelman, Stayton; Mrs. Susanne Corrado, Hondo, Tex., and Marilyn Mayer, Mundelin College, Chicago; sisters, Mrs. Augusta Kelly, The Dalles; Sister Mary Rose Augusta, Spokane; Bernice Mayer, Portland; and Mrs. Richard Harold, Portland; brothers, Fred of Alta-Dena, Cal., and Al of San Mateo, and 12 grandchildren.
