Elinor (Ellen) was born in Ireland, and educated at Dublin University. She and part of her family came to the USA but it is not known why she went to Georgia - and then to Pendleton, SC, where she was head mistress at the Pendleton Female Academy for 10 years. She married William N in Feb. 1858, whereupon the family relocated first to Columbus, GA, then to nearby Seale, AL.

She is buried next to William N Martin at Villula, AL. She was his 3rd wife and they had three children: Zoe, John James, and Henry Jebb.

Elinor died about 1-1/2 months before William, leaving a will specifying the "care and comfort" of her beloved husband. William left no will that has been found.
