Elizabeth Backus

Elizabeth Pratt, d/o William Pratt was b. 1 Feb 1641/2 in Saybrook; died in Norwich in 1730; m. 11 May 1660 Lt. William Backus of Norwich.

William Backus ll (son of William Backus & Elizabeth) married twice:

1) Sarah Charles, ca. 1659, daughter of John Charles and Sarah Moss.

2) Elizabeth Pratt, b. February 1, 1641 at Saybrook, she was daughter of Lt. William and Elizabeth Clark of Saybrook, Connecticut.[2] By 1664, William had taken as his second wife Elizabeth Pratt, daughter of Lt. William Pratt and Elizabeth Clark. Her father was an original proprietor of Hartford, Connecticut, a man of considerable standing, and for years a Deputy to the General Court of the colony. Elizabeth bore her husband six children. Though commonly shown as surviving until 1730, it is more likely that she died in 1703 or thereabouts; this is deduced from details in an acknowledgement by Joseph Backus in 1704/1705 of property deeded him by his father, William Backus, Jr.

1. Hannah Backus, b. ca. 1660 (will implies daughter of Elizabeth...but date of birth suggests daughter of Sarah Charles
2. Nathaniel Backus b. April 15, 1669 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut
3. Elizabeth Backus, b. about 1670 [uncertain] in Norwich, New London, Connecticut
4. Mary Backus 1693
5. Joseph Backus, b. 1693

William Backus died ca. 1721 at Norwich, New London, Connecticut.
