Obituary from the Lincoln Journal, Lincolnton, Lincoln County, GA, July 1991 Editon:
E. Carlton Beggs, Rt 3, Prater Rd., age 61, died Sunday at University Hospital in Augusta. He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of Robert Elzy and Carrie Reid Beggs. He was the founder and director of Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton and had served as the Lincoln County Coroner since 1981. He was associated with M. W. Callaway and Sons Funeral Home in Warrenton and Thomson and was a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Mr. Beggs was a graduate of Dallas Institute of Gupton Jones College and a member of Sigma Eta National Mortuary Service Fraternity. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Lincolnton Masonic Lodge and was field representative for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served as a member to Lincoln County Selective Service Board. He was a member of GA Coroner's Association and the County Officers Association of GA. Mr. Beggs worked with the Lions Eye Bank program and was one of the first volunteer EMT's with the county ambulance service when it was started in 1974. He was a member of Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and served as Chairman of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program of Lincoln County. Mr. Beggs was a member of Goshen Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Survivors include his wife, Ellie Ruth Norman Beggs, sons, Kevin R. Beggs (Warrenton), Keith N. Beggs (Thomson), Bruce C. Beggs and Brian D. Beggs (both of Lincolnton); brother, Omar Beggs (Lincolnton) and one grandson.
