About Emanuel Stern

- As of the 1870 census noted above, Emanuel was a 24-year-old bookkeeper who resided in the Goldschmidt household. Most likely, he kept the business accounts & ledgers for Herman Goldschmidt, and would eventually marry Herman's daughter Bella.
- Emanuel became a naturalized United States citizen on 14 March 1871, at the U.S. District Court in Hartford. Emanuel noted that he was 22 years old and was from "Oldenberg". It is most likely, though, that Emanuel was actually from the city of Oldenburg, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, German Confederation, rather than from Oldenberg in the Duchy of Holstein.
