About Father Bernard Sychta

Born on March 21, 1907 in Puzdrowie in Kashuby. He attended high school in Wejherowo. After he graduated high school in 1927, he entered the Seminary in Pelplin. After completing his theological studies, he was ordained on December 17, 1932. Until the beginning of 1941, he was chaplain at the Hospital for the Mentally Ill in Kocborów. Until the end of the Nazi occupation, he hid in Osiu, gathering ethnographic materials from Kociewie and Tuchola Forest. In 1947, he became the pastor of the Cathedral of Pelplin. and lectured in Pelplin Seminary. After the war, in 1947, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan for his work "The material folk culture Bory Tucholskich against the ethnography of Kashubian and Kociewie". He received an honorary title from the University of Gdansk and a honorary membership in the Society of Friends of the Earth Kociewie.

Father Bernard Sychta died on November 25, 1982 and was buried on November 29, 1982 in Pelpin.
