About George Cronjé
George Cronjé (1964 - 2010)
Brief overview:
George (46), an area manager for Sandvik Mining Delmas and his colleague Charles Slabbert (45), were shot while on a business trip to a Komatipoort mine. George sustained to gunshot wounds to the chest and died. Charles sustained injuries to his face, chest, arm and hand, but survived.
The colleagues were apparently at a local restaurant and were on their way to the Komati River Chalets shortly after midnight when they got lost. Police spokesperson Gerald Sedibe, said a security guard, Arnold Mthethwa, claimed he found the two men driving along next to the train track in Suiddorp, Komatipoort. Mthethwa appeared briefly in the Komatipoort magistrate’s court for a remand date while the SAPS investigates further. He was released on his own cognisance.
