About George Ruthven
GEORGE RUTHVEN
The Question of Identity
This person is identified as George Ruthven in six pedigrees published by MyHeritage, and as Geoege John Ruthven in another four. His birth date is recorded as 4 January 1663 in five of these, as January 1663 in another, and as 1663 in another two. A further two pedigrees give no date or year of birth. Notwithstanding, it seems that the person concerned is George Ruthven, that child of William Ruthven and Isoble Reid whose baptism was registered at Brechin in Angus on 4 January 1663. Three pedigrees identify Dumbarton as his place of death, and other five say that he died in Brechin. Eight of the aforementioned pedigrees claim that it was this child who subsequently moved from Brechin to St. Ninians' parish in Stirlingshire and married Elspeth Hutchesone but this seems unlikely, particularly since evidence that confirms the proposed relationship is not provided.
