During WWII, George was working for Turtling Construction on Wake Island. He was captured by the Japanese at Wake Island circa 23 December 1941. He along with Herbert Hardisty of John Day, Grant, Oregon, were tortured by the Japanese and executed on Wake Island at Camp Sasabo (?) circa October 1943. He may be buried elsewhere.
