About Gordt STAHLSCHMIDT
GEDCOM Note
The name Stahlschmidt, in its various forms, appears in Bigge as early as 1270. The earliest registers of the farm houses (Verzeichnis der Solstätte), indicates a continuous line of the Stahlschmidt family in the house which later became known as Veltens.
1270 it is known as "Stahlschmidts Hauß" - occupant Hynrich Stahlschmidt 1370 Stahlschmidt 1536 Thieß Schmidt Fraw (i.e. wife/widow of Thieß [Stahl] Schmidt) 1578 Grodt Stalschmidt
After Grodt, the house was inherited by his daughter Gertrudis and her husband Veltin Jütten, after whom it was then known colloquially as "Veltens". Four of Grodt's sons established their own houses while Melchior ( Küster = Sacristan and teacher in Bigge from 1584) remained at Veltens.
The farm house was one of the original 20 oldest houses in Bigge, and according to Karl-Heinz Förster, in his coauthored book, Bigge im Strom der Zeit (see Sources), possibly the earliest, as indicated by its proximity to the church. He refers to it as the cradle of the Stahlschmids.
Veltens survived until about 1960 and was located at Kirchplaz Nr. 3, the site of the current parsonage, which was built on the site in 1983/84. Source Link: https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000173070360822label=@S46@
