OBITUARY

Harold George Weidenthal, metallurgical engineer, Cleveland, O., died on April 13. Mr. Weidenthal was born in Cleveland, March 16, 1891, was educated in the public schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1909 and Cornell University in 1913 with the degree of M. E. During vacations he worked at the Brown Hoisting Machinery Co., the Walworth Run Foundry Co., the Canton Rolling Mills and the Upson Nut Co. In 1913, after graduation, he went with The Lorain Steel Co., Lorain, O., as open-hearth foreman. In 1914 he joined the Upson Nut Co., Cleveland, as metallurgical engineer, leaving in 1915 to become connected with John R. Crowley Co.. Detroit, as chief electric furnace melter. In 1916 he joined the Standard Chemical Co., Cannonsburg, Pa., as metallurgical engineer, but in 1917 became associated with the General Steel Co., Milwaukee, as works manager. From 1918 to 1920 he was with the James H. Herron Co., Cleveland, as vice president and chief metallurgical engineer. In 1920 he became consulting metallurgical engineer.

Mr. Weidenthal was a member of the Cleveland Engineering Society, the American Society for Testing Materials and the American Society for Steel Treating. He was a member of Board of Directors of latter society in 1919-1920.

Harold George Weidenthal died on April 13, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in Cleveland on March 16, 1891, and was educated in the public schools he was graduated from, the Lin- coln High School in 1909, and entered Cornell in the fall of that year, receiving the degree of M. E. in 1913. He played on the varsity football team in his senior year. During vacations he worked for the Brown Hoisting Machinery Company, the Walworth Run Foundry, the Canton Roll- ing Mills, and the Upson Nut Company. For a short time after his graduation he was an apprentice in the rail mill of the National Tube Company of Cleveland; then he became open-hearth foreman for the Lorain Steel Company, of Lorain , Ohio. In 1914 he became associated with the Upson Nut Company, of Cleveland, as metallurgical engineer, leaving in 1915 to take charge of the steel plant of the John A. Crowley Company, of Detroit. The next year he joined the Standard Chemical Company, of Cannonsburg, Pa.j, as metallurgical engineer, and in 1917 was made works manager of the General Steel Company, of Milwaukee, holding this position until 1918, when he resigned to become associated with James H. Her- ron, of Cleveland, as Vice-president and chief metallurgical engineer with the James H. Herron Company, metallurgi- cal, chemical, testing, and inspecting en- gineers. He left this position in 1920 to engage in private practice as a consulting metallurgical engineer. Weidenthal was a member of the Cleve- land Engineering Society, the American Society for Testing Materials, and the American Society for Steel Treating. He was a member of the board of directors of the latter organization in 1919-20. He was married on November 27, 1916, to Miss Louise Dorothy Strempel, of Cleveland, who survives him.
