Veteran of the South African war, and belonged to the S.A.Veterans Association. Served in the First World War Private no 203225 W/O 372/9 Died aged 68 - from an operation for gastro-enterastomy, he also had anaemia, haematemesas and cellulitos of the leg. - died at 23 Hales Road -Surrey County Hospital.

Lynda New - lived at Myrtle Cottages, Weybourne, Surrey. Worker for Hall & Warner in Aldershot and later had his own decorator's business.

Formerly employed by Hall and Warner of Aldershot and subsequently was in business on his own account. Served in the South Wales Borderers during the South African War, and also saw service in the Great War. His grandfather kept the Cordwainers Arms in Union Street, Aldershot, and his father was successively licensee of The Rifleman and The Pavilion, in Aldershot. Besides the widow three sons and a daughter are left in bereavement (from obituary).

Funeral service at Hale Parish Chuch on Tuesday 8th October 1940. Buried at Badshot Lea Cemetery. His widow was unable to attend, and the family mourners were Mr and Mrs H. Hatch, Mr and Mrs C.Hatch (sons and daughters-in-law), A.-C. E. J. Hatch (son), Mrs Bull (daughter), Mr and Mrs A. Hatch (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs Marsh and Mrs Gouldbolt (sisters). Mrs Croucher (sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs George (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), the Misses Ada and Annie Pullinger (sisters-in-law), Miss Green, Mrs Brooker and Miss Brooker.
