About James Rorke
Research shows that James and Julia travelled to South Africa on a ship called the Chatham in 1823. Their sons were James, Michael, Thomas, Benjamin, John. The first three arrived at the same time as the parents. Benjamin and family arrived later. John stayed behind in Ireland. The contact details are Rorke, Clontusker, Ballinasloe, Kilnatown, St Matthews Church. There is an ancestral home in County Galway. John stayed behind to take over the farm his parents rented from Earl of Clancarty. James returned to Ireland and is buried at St Matthews Church (protestant) in Glanlahan. Ballinasloe. One presumes his wife accompanied him back to Ireland. Ireland XO"' provided a document which shows a J Rorke paid some sort of tax in the above parish.
