About John "Hans" G. Reiff

Hans George Reiff settled next to his Mennonite cousins in 1717. They involved him in their activities, and, as a result, he signed the Mennonite Trust in 1725. His wife was buried in Mennonite ground in 1753, as he may have been in 1726, but they were Reformed, she the daughter of Dutch Officials perhaps.

  • "Hans George Reiff (emigrated) to America before 1717, when the first record of his arrival can be found. Apparently, he came from Germany (...) He was a farmer and a blacksmith, and settled in Lower Salford Township around 1720. He was of the Dutch (German) Reformed Church, and indeed the first Reformed Church in Penna. is said to have been organized on his plantation. He died in Dec. 1726, and his will. written in English rather than German, can be still seen in Phila. City Hall," ~ letter of Harry E. Reiff to Elizabeth Wildman 10/3/1981

according to Harry E. Reiff in a letter of 1981: "He was a farmer and a blacksmith, and settled in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery around 1720. He was of the Dutch (German) Reformed Church, and indeed the first Reformed Church in Penna. is said to have been organized on his plantation. He died in Dec. 1726 and his will, written in English rather than German, can still be seen in Phila. City Hall.
