About 1838 he went back to Massachusetts, where he died 27 Oct 1847, and was buried in Marlborough. He was a farmer, lived near McWains Pond, and by trade a cooper. "He was a very pious man," says a granddaughter, and "one of the pillars of the Methodist Church. He know the Bible almost by heart, and I always thought he was kind of a saint." [9]
