- He purchased the land from Antonio Sánchez for a yoke of oxen, 36 ewes, one ram and twenty dollars. He later "sold" the land to a Father Hayes for $4000 in 1879. At the time of the Jose Ramon purchase, the land was described as having the following boundaries:
- North -- the Rio de los Adages and Pueblo of San Ildefonso
- South -- the Rio de Los Frijoles
- East -- the Rio Grande
- West -- the top/highest part of the Sierra Madre (Jemez Mountains)
- The boundaries of the property when the land was originally granted to Pedro Sánchez on 20 March 1747 were given as:
