About Joseph Manley

[source: Briar Wright]

Joseph Manley was a Wagon Builder, a wheelwright, a merchant and a farmer on the farm Kennilworth in the Molteno district of the Cape Province. At one stage he was Mayor of Molteno and the Council presented him with a reputedly silver, either tea or coffee service. He bought his wife the matching service, of which the only remaining piece is a round tray with the initials ZM on it that is in the possession of a daughter of Shirley Isaac.

He moved (about 1900) from Molteno to the farm “Ellesmere” in the Parys (O.F.S.) district with his family.
