About Jure Vojnić Šimić
Šimić’s are not all from the same family - there are at least three branches of this family: Western Herzegovina-Imotski, Livanja-Cetina and Duvno-Roška.
Šimići from Herzegovina-Imotski are among the most significant Croatian families. In ancient times the surname was Vojnić, there is still a village near Ljubuški called Vojnići. Proof that this is the same family we can found in old parish records from Tucepi. These records are kept from the 1662 and in them we can find the beginning of their double surname, ie Vojnić Simic and vice versa. Šimić family crossed over from their homeplace to nearby Ruzic (now the space in Herzegovina municipalities Grude), after which the family branch surname became Ruzic before they migrated to Dalmatia. The reason why the Šimić family left Vojnic is one of them killed a Turk from the Mostar area, then fled the Coast and settled in Tucepi, in the hamlet Simic, sometimes called Murena Mala' (Mala probably from Turkish ‘mahala’)
