About Måns Peterson Stake
He came to New Sweden ( on the Delaware River) on the ship "Eagle" with Governor Rising in 1654 as the governor's provost marshal. After the surrender of New Sweden, he moved to New Amsterdam where he became one of the first settlers of Harlem. While there he was fined heavily by the court for misdemeanors resulting from drinking. He moved on to Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1666. He purchased Israel Helm's 1/4th interest in Calcon Hook. His drinking habits continued to land him in trouble with his neighbors according to the records. He gave his plantation to his son, Peter, in 1695. He died after 1697 when he was living with his son.
