About Marcus L. Wiser
Marcus L. Wiser Jr. (Mark), left home in Charlestown, Indiana in the mid 1880s and went to Texas. Letters he wrote to his mother in Charlestown, Indiana shows that he drove stage between Fort McKavitt and Fort Concho for a time and then from a copy of contract he signed to deliver mail he had Route 31251 from Llano to Mason, Texas. Letters were addressed from Fort Concho, Tomgreen County and from Mason, Mason County, Texas. Upon his return to Indiana he was employed by the Louisville and Nashville, Railroad Company. A letter home was addressed from Greensburg, Green County Ky., and said that he was on the Cumberland and Ohio branch of the railroad. Mark Wiser died at the age of 36 of Typhoid Fever he contracted from drinking contaminated water from a railroad water tower.
